UPDATED: 13 January 2007 - bug fixes and tested against Joomla 1.0.12. New download file! Either uninstall and reinstall, or simply replace sef.php.
A new version of Remosef specially for use with Joomla. This emulates the facilities built into the Mambo 4.6 SEF (in the corrected version available from Mambo Guru). Please note that this is BETA software to be used with caution.
This new version automatically provides permanent redirect headers when a non-SEF URL is submitted to a SEF enabled site. Conversely, provided Remosef is kept installed, if SEF is turned off, then a SEF URL will be redirected to a non-SEF version. Permanent redirects are the best way to tell search engines that pages have new URLs, and also avoids giving search engines the impression of duplicate pages. (Although please note that the PDF, print, email icons cause problems in this respect).
Note that it is essential to install a suitable .htaccess file in the document root of your Joomla installation. You should modify the standard Joomla .htaccess file so that the last effective SEF line reads:
RewriteRule ^(content/|component/|jos/) index.phpNote that Remosef for Joomla ALWAYS uses a prefix of some kind. Without further help, it will use the familiar "content" and "component" prefixes. If a sef_ext.php file is provided and activated for a component (by recording the component in the admin interface) then a third prefix will be used. By default it is "jos" but you can set it to something else in the admin config. If you change the config, you MUST change .htaccess to match. Using a prefix is important, as otherwise spurious URLs can become established in search engines, and page not found (error 404) processing will not work properly. This is very important for success with search engines.
Parameters can be configured through the administrator interface, which is currently a bit crude, but should be effective.
