I would suggest considering VirtueMart. Take a look at this thread, it allows you to add some of the cutom size/variations you mention. You can also charge varying amounts for each customization. Search thier forum for other discussions about that modification.
VirtueMart will handle the billing of customers, something Remository is not designed to do.
Also take a look at Sobi2. It's more of a directory, but it can bill for upload pics, has a gallery plugin, and maybe some other features you may like. I think VM is a better fit, but the choice is yours.
Maybe others can recommend something better if you provide a bit more detail. But Joomla and the above components are $free, and that's hard to beat. If your site becomes a success don't forget to donate a few $$$ to the component developers who have helped make it possible.
