Replacement Joomla 1.5.x interface files to deal with "database gone away" errors. The archive contains two files which should replace the identically named files to be found at ../libraries/joomla/database/database.

This version is compatible with Joomla 1.5.7 and may be compatible with earlier versions also.

This is a replacement of two Joomla 1.5.x core files and its purpose is to deal with a problem that is not adequately handled by Joomla. Specifically, depending on what optimizations have been done, it is quite possible for the database connection to be lost if request handling takes some significant time. The error that results is not a hard error, and should be handled by reconnecting to the database. Joomla does not do this, and components cannot do it for Joomla without poking around in database credentials that should not (in principle) be accessible outside the core. Even if they could, it is a problem that logically belongs in the CMS.

The archivecontains files in the same directory arrangement as standard Joomla systems. In fact, it is a replacement for the two MySQL interface classes.

This fix is not specific to Remository products, although the weakness in Joomla can easily be manifested in use of Remository, since downloads can take a significant length of time, which tends to provoke the problem of timed out DB connections. People will therefore suffer errors that appear to be attributable to Remository, but are in fact to do with a weakness in Joomla. Similar problems exist in Mambo and (possibly fixed in the most recent release) MiaCMS.
